Cherney Dance Studio, located at the present location for over 50 years, is the oldest, most established dance studio in Union, New Jersey.

 

Our dance school has earned an excellent reputation for providing superior dance education. Since the beginning in 1956, the community has enthusiastically received our dance program.

 

Since 1956 we have continuously updated and improved our program while retaining the original philosophy of dance training in a pleasant non-stressful environment.

 

Our goal is to discover and develop each student's unique talents. We pride ourselves on working with each student to develop their potential to the utmost.

 

Each class level is designed to incorporate age-appropriate instruction by trained teachers experienced in developing the student's dance skills, coordination and self-esteem. We strive to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, foster creativity and provide fond memories to last a lifetime.

 

Graduates of the school have gone on to professional careers, to operate their own dance studios and to become Radio City Music Hall Rockettes including Cynthia Cherney. Many children and grandchildren of our alumni are now students, too!

Miss Robyn Dominguez - Owner, Director, Instructor

Miss Robyn is a graduate of Dance Educators of America and has also completed post graduate certification in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, gymnastics and musical theater and production. She studied and trained with Master Teachers and attended various workshops in all disciplines of dance including hip-hop. Miss Robyn has also choreographed theater productions of The King and I, Brigadoon, Little Abner and The Music Man. Robyn has taught students of all ages from beginner to advanced for Cherney Dance Studio including the many award winning competition groups throughout her 45+ years of teaching experience. She is also Producer of C.A.S.T. (Community Actors Student Theatre), a theatre group that works with children 10 years and up from Union County.

Miss Alicia Dominguez - Director, Instructor

Miss Alicia has been studying dance for over 20 years. At three years old she began taking lessons at Cherney Dance Studio. Her dance education includes ballet, pointe, tap, jazz and hip-hop. Miss Alicia has danced in many community theater productions: Brigadoon, Peter Pan, Barnum, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Music Man, Children of Eden, Grease, Once Upon a Mattress, Little Shop of Horrors, Guys & Dolls, West Side Story and Hairspray. Alicia has been Dance Captain / Assistant Choreographer for many shows and the main choreographer for Children of Eden, Grease and Once Upon a Mattress. Alicia has also worked several years as choreographer/teacher at a Summer Children's Musical Theater Camp for productions of Godspell, Pirates of Penzance and People Garden. She has danced in many competitions and performed at Six Flags and Hershey Park over the years and has taken much joy in learning as much and as often as she possibly can at workshops and master classes.
